Cash App $15M Security Settlement — Payouts, Eligibility & Status

In April 2022, Cash App and Cash App Investing users filed a class action lawsuit against Block, Inc. (Case No. 22-cv-04823 in the Northern District of California), saying the company failed to protect accounts and handle disputes properly. Block agreed to pay $15 million to settle — without admitting any wrongdoing.

What's happening right now (October 2026)

The claim deadline is long closed (it was November 18, 2024), and no new claims are being accepted. Final approval was granted on March 27, 2025. Electronic payments started going out April 10, 2025, and paper checks began mailing from April 20, 2025.

Right now, the settlement administrator has finished the deficiency and appeals review (completed September 2026) and is distributing payments to approved claims. About 667,000 claims were filed; roughly 40,380 were approved, totaling around $5.6 million paid out so far. If your claim was approved, your payment should be on its way — or may already be in your account. For the full timeline, see where the settlement stands now.

Who qualified

You qualified if you were a Cash App or Cash App Investing customer between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024 and experienced unauthorized account access, a fraudulent transfer, or an account error that was never resolved. The eligibility details explain exactly what counted and what documentation mattered.

How much people are getting

Approved claimants can receive up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses, plus up to 3 hours of lost time at $25/hour, plus reimbursement for certain transaction losses. Your payment arrives the way you picked on your claim form: Venmo, Zelle, a prepaid card, or a paper check.

One important warning

Scammers love big settlements. If you get a text, email, or call claiming you need to pay a fee, share a bank login, or click a link to "release" your payment — it's a scam. The real settlement administrator never asks for fees or passwords. Read our guide to settlement scams before you trust any message about this payout.

I moved last year and picked the paper check like an idiot. Updated my address on the official site yesterday — hopefully it goes to the right place this time.

Same situation here. I used the administrator contact info on cashappsecuritysettlement.com and they confirmed my address change. Took five minutes, worth doing if you moved.

Filed back in 2024 and my claim got approved last month. Still waiting on the Zelle payment though — does anyone know how long it usually takes after the approval notice?

Mine took about two weeks after the approval notice came. The payment comes from the administrator, not from Cash App, so check your Zelle activity carefully — the sender name won't say Cash App.

Got a text yesterday saying my payment was 'held' and I needed to pay a $30 release fee to get it. Deleted it after reading the scam section here. Sharing in case someone else gets the same one.
